Nopalito’s story begins in the small village of El Aguila in Veracruz, Mexico, where chef and owner Gonzalo Guzman learned to cook from his mother – growing corn, beans, chiles, and tomatoes, and developing a deep love for the ingredients and traditions of Mexican cooking. That connection to the land and to family is at the heart of everything Nopalito does.
Since opening in San Francisco in 2009, Nopalito has built a reputation for traditional, from-scratch Mexican cooking made with vibrant local Bay Area ingredients, an exceptional tequila and mezcal program, and the genuine warmth of Mexican hospitality. Gonzalo’s work has been recognized with a James Beard Award-winning cookbook, Nopalito: A Mexican Kitchen.
Today, Nopalito’s Broderick Street location is where the team cooks, serves, and celebrates the food they love deeply – and they’d love to bring that same spirit to your wedding table.
